High voltage sinusoidal generator

HIGH VOLTAGE SINUSOIDAL GENERATOR

High voltage generator Minipuls of GBS Elektronik generates sinusoidal pulses based on HV transformers for dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) applications.

All these generator models are available as OEM version and are interesting to those who wish to integrate this technology in their own devices and close to their plasma reactor.

The Minipuls generator is an extremely competitive alternative to commercial high voltage amplifiers. The acquisition cost of such an AC generator is 5 to 10 times lower than a high voltage AC amplifier.

The dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is a gas discharge on an insulator which is located between electrodes. This discharge can only occur with alternating voltages.

Applications are to be found in the chemistry field with for example the production of ozone. Another application refers to the production of ultraviolet light in the field of aerodynamics. Other applications can be studied such as the slow destruction of insulating material due to the alternating voltage.

The high voltage generator Multipuls delivers sinusoidal alternating voltages with frequencies of 5 kHz to 20 kHz by means of cascade HV transformers. The OEM cards are delivered with a full bridge converter and a circuit board with the transformer stages. The average powers are of 120 W to 700 W, the available values of peak voltages are 10 kV, 20 kV and 30 kV.

The typical nominal load of a high voltage generator Minipuls is 100 pF. It corresponds to the capacity of coaxial cable of 1 meter. Therefore Minipuls generators are only available as OEM version, since a box with an output cable would already exceed the rated load. Typically, the Minipuls HV cascade transformer must be placed close to the load, near the plasma reactor.

MINIPULS 2 +/- 10 KV AND 120 W

The high voltage generator Minipuls2 from GBS Elektronik consists of two independent electronic circuits (PCB): a full-bridge switching converter stage and a booster stage based on high-voltage cascade transformers operating in resonant or quasi-resonant mode.

The step-up stage is made up of 7 cascade transformers controlled by a primary resonant circuit based on inductance. One can choose the division ratio with the values of 1/184 to 1/158, 1/132 and 1/106 by shunting the last 3 transformers, thus allowing to drive higher currents, but at lower voltages. The load must not exceed 300 pF and it needs to be greater than 100 kOhm. By using BNC connectors, the voltage on the card is monitored with a ratio of 1/2000 and in current with a ratio of 10 V/A.

MINIPULS 4 +/- 20 KV AND 300 W

The high voltage generator Minipuls4 from GBS Elektronik is made up of 2 PCB boards: a full-bridge switching converter stage and a booster stage based on high-voltage cascade transformers operating in resonant or quasi-resonant mode.

The full bridge converter delivers rectangular waves with positive or negative half-waves. It is controlled by an external clock. Additionally it is possible to generate bursts from 0 to 400 Hz with a duty cycle from 0 to 100%.

The step-up stage is made up of 5 cascading transformers that are controlled by a resonant primary circuit based on inductors of 81μH, 100μH and 121μH. One can choose between a division ratio of the values 1/102, 1/121 and 1/148 by shunting the last 3 transformers, thus allowing to drive higher currents but at lower voltages. The load must not exceed 300 pF and it needs to be greater than 100 kOhm. By using BNC connectors, the card is monitored in voltage with a ratio of 1/1000 and in current with a ratio of 10 V / A.
