PL 506 / PL 512 PROGRAMMABLE DC POWER SUPPLIES

Multichannel power supplies:

The programmable DC power supplies PL506 and PL512 of our German partner W-IE-NE-R Power Electronics is a multi-channel power supply from 1 to 6 channels and from 1 to 12 channels. It generates low voltages and very high current intensities.

The principle is based on modularity: elementary power blocks, single-channel MEH or double-channel MDL and MDH, are inserted into slots which are supplied in network via a PFC and a DC bus. The outputs of the power supplies are floating, programmable, and independent of each other.

Senses Lines and Loss Compensation:

The so-called ‘sense’ electronics allow each load to be placed into a control loop as well as over a long distance. This is to compensate for the line losses consecutive to strong currents flowing in the cables. The outputs of the programmable DC power supplies PL 506 and PL 512 are accessible via threaded rods and nuts of large diameters. These systems are controlled by using USB and Ethernet interfaces and their dedicated software. They fit into installations that require several voltages at the same time with loads that can be resistive, capacitive and / or inductive.

Multipolar outputs and driver software:

The outputs of the programmable DC power supply can be unipolar or bipolar, as well as single-channel or multi-channel. A large number of software applications such as Webserver, OPCClient and OPCServer, Labview, allow these devices to be inserted in small installations or in large-scale experiments.

French, European and global installations:

Large installations are equipped with these systems, such as the T2K experiment in Japan, the Class12 at Jefferson Lab in the USA, several experiments at CERN or even ACTAR at GANIL in France.

PROGRAMMABLE  DC POWER SUPPLY MPOD

The Mpod power supply is offered in the 6U format. It is inserted in a 19’’ rack chassis of the following sizes:

  • Mpod micro (1 slot / 2 slots),
  • Mpod mini (4 slots)
  • Mpod (10 slots).

It delivers voltages ranging from 8 VDC to 120 VDC and current intensities ranging from 100 mA to 20 A. The programmable Mpod DC power supply exists with 50 W per channel and 100 W per channel for a total of 400 W per module.

Floating low voltage power supply with Senses:

All outputs are floating. This allows to be wired with the pole (-) to ground to generate a positive voltage or with the pole (+) to ground to obtain a negative voltage. The programmable DC power supply offers electronic compensation for line losses following high current intensities. The returns of the ‘sense’ that are connected to the regulation loops provide stable voltages at the cable ends, on the load side.

Extreme power density:

An exclusivity of the Mpod technology lies in its mode of supply. An alternating voltage of 385 – 400 VAC from the backplane is directed to each transformer on each input stage of the module. A high transformation ratio makes it possible to obtain low voltages on the outputs. Inversely proportional, this also makes it possible to amplify the current at high levels without requiring power from the upstream chassis. On our correctly dimensioned chassis, all the power can be transferred to all the output channels without any restriction. Thus all the modules of the same chassis are always capable to deliver 50 W per channel (8-channel model) and 100 W per channel (4-channel model) for a total of 400 W per module .

Integration in a Mpod chassis:

The Mpod chassis, developed and manufactured by W-IE-NE-R Power Electronics, allow the insertion of multi-channel programmable DC power supplies.

The Mpod micro model offers 1 and 2 slots, the model Mpod mini 4 slots and the model Mpod 10 slots.

W-IE-NE-R’s expertise in power electronics enables the integration of power supplies that meet an increased requirement: supplying a lot of power via a primary stage designed around a PFC with a 380 VAC AC bus which supplies the LV modules directly. This unique architecture offered by W-IE-NE-R provides a very wide power range, from 600 W for the model Mpod micro 1 slot up to 3 kW, for the model Mpod 10 slots.

Inheriting the unique expertise of W-IE-NE-R in modular chassis construction, the Mpod series benefits from backplanes equipped with DIN-30 connectors, routed and wired exclusively ‘low voltage’, with outputs oriented towards the front or towards the rear panel of the chassis.

MICROTCA.4 PROGRAMMABLE DC POWER SUPPLY FOR MICROTCA CHASSIS
