Micro TCA4 power supply

MicroTCA4 power supply

Introduction to MicroTCA4 power supply:

For many years the company W-IE-NE-R Plein & Baus has specialized in the development and the manufacturing of power supplies and chassis dedicated to scientific instrumentation. The company is involved in a number of standards chassis like VME64, VME64x, VME430, VXI, and VXS. The MicroTCA4 power supply is one of the latest innovations in this field, and benefits of high quality routing and assembly thanks to the requirement set in the choice of the used electronic components.

This is particularly important, since the microTCA chassis was being initially intended to receive sensitive electronics for rapid data acquisition (DAQ modules) it is essential that the power supplies are clean, stable, free of parasitic harmonics. The level of residual ripple and noise must be very low, in particular through the reduction of common mode noise and the elimination of ground loops.

High power density:

The MicroTCA4 power supply of W-IE-NE-R has a very high energy density capable of generating a power of 1000 W. In accordance with the PICMIC standard, the microTCA4 power supply delivers voltages + 12 VDC for “Payload” outputs and voltages + 3.3 VDC for power management distributed in AMC “Advanced Mezzanine Cards”.

The MicroTCA4 power supply includes an AC main filter at the main input, an AC – DC converter based on a very high frequency switching technique and an EMMC “Enhanced Module Management Controller”. This controller works in conjunction with the MCMC controller “MicroTCA Carrier Management Controller” of the MCH hub “MicroTCA Carrier Hub”. This allows the “ hot-swappable ” mode, that is to say the insertion and extraction of the power while the system is in operation.

The microTCA4 power supply is available in double height and double width format, compatible with a number of commercially available microTCA chassis.
